Fish and Game supports licence fee increase

A increase in fishing and game licence fees has been supported by the Central South Island Fish and Game Council.

The Fish and Game New Zealand council is recommending a $4 increase in the whole season adult fishing licence to $113 and a $3 increase in the adult game licence to $86 for the 2010-11 season and is now seeking the views of regional councils.

Otago has already supported the increases.

Other shorter-term, junior and family licences would also rise in price, with the increase including the new GST of 15% from October 1.

The increases still have to be approved by the New Zealand council and will then go as a recommendation to Minister of Conservation Kate Wilkinson who will make the final decision.

Last year she refused to increase the fee.

The New Zealand council said the increase was needed to generate the funding required to cover base funds, contestable funding and legal fund allocations.
