Otago Fire and Emergency advised today it had lifted the restricted season in the Clutha and Coastal Waitaki fire zones, meaning those areas return to an open season.
"During an open fire season, fire may be lit in the open air, without a fire permit, so long as it is safe to do so.
"Any person who lights a fire remains responsible for controlling and extinguishing the fire."
Today's move comes after the total fire ban in the Strath Taieri zone was lifted yesterday. The area returns to a restricted season, which means a permit is required to light a fire in open air.
A ban on fireworks in the zone was also lifted yesterday.
Fire and Emergency said local and regional council rules and bylaws still applied, and there were "special rules" regarding fires on public conservation land and in other special risk areas.
