While it is only six weeks since the last appointments to the Otago Conservation board were confirmed, the search is already on for this year's appointments.
The aim is to fill the gap left by the resignation of Chas Tanner, who is going overseas, and the two other positions that will open up when appointments end in September.
Last year, the appointments, made by Minister of Conservation Kate Wilkinson, were not announced until Christmas, even though three members' terms came to an end in September.
It was hoped that by seeking nominees now for the three positions coming vacant this year, that would be avoided, board support officer Mark Clark said.
This year, new chairwoman Abby Smith's term ends, as does that of Chas Morris, of Wanaka.
They and Mr Tanner have served two terms on the board.
Mr Morris and Ms Smith have the option of standing again but nominations are open to everyone.
Ms Smith said the main role of the board was to review and suggest conservation strategies for the future and advise the Department of Conservation on how best to implement the strategies.
"Conservation board members don't have to put in many hours, but by being involved in setting the direction of conservation in Otago, they have the opportunity to make a real difference," she said.
Nominations close tomorrow.
