Female country singers from throughout Otago wowed judges at the recent Cromwell Country Music Club gala day and talent quest.

Milton 11-year-old Paige Gardner won the show's junior section, while 7-year-old Grace Smart-Michelle, also of Milton, took second place.

In the senior section Grace's sister Teisha Seymour (14), of Milton, took the top spot, after which she and Grace together went on to take second place in the duo groups section as Sister Act.

Male performers managed to take some top three placings, with Craig Adams, of Cromwell, and Tom Wharekawa, of Invercargill, securing second and third respectively in the senior section.

Phillip and Carol Chapman, of Christchurch, won the duo groups category, in which a group titled M and I came third.

About 200 country music fans united for the show at the Cromwell Town and Country Club, after which an open microphone tempted a variety of performers.

Cromwell Country Music Club president Maggie Langan said the yearly event was first held more than 20 years ago, and regularly attracted people from throughout Otago, including Milton, Dunedin, Balclutha, Middlemarch, and Waikouaiti.
