After 130 years' of exposure to the elements, the Teviot Union Church, a landmark building on the main street of Roxburgh, could be expected to be showing age.

But repairs completed recently turned out to be minor.

Church elder John Kerr said parapets on the end of the building were resealed and some grouting was repointed.

"Considering it's 130 years old, it's in very good condition," he said.

The work took about a week, cost a few thousand dollars and was routine.

"Originally, we thought the damage to the grouting might have been earthquake damage from the last big earthquake, but it wasn't.

"It was only wear and tear."

The building was originally the Roxburgh Presbyterian Church and became the base for the Teviot Union parish about 40 years ago.

Services are held every Sunday.
