The 32-year-old will retire from country rugby after playing his 102nd game for Lawrence.
Ankers travelled to New Zealand in 2002, and began playing loose forward or No 8 for the Lawrence team that same year.
He returned home to Wales each year to play the Welsh rugby seasons during the New Zealand summer.
Originally from Bedwas, a town about 13km north of Welsh capital Cardiff, Ankers moved to New Zealand "full time" five years ago.
He said he wanted to reach 100 games for Lawrence before he retired and was looking forward to spending more time fly-fishing.
"If I'm not playing rugby, I'm out by a river or lake, fishing. I'm dead keen on fishing."
Playing rugby for Lawrence was a lot of fun and a great way to meet local people, Ankers said.
"I'm happy to be out there playing for the team, and there are some really good players. Sometimes it's a bit of a competition for the loose forward and No 8 positions."
One of the high points in his time playing for the Lawrence team was winning the South Otago final earlier this month in Balclutha.
"Winning the South Otago final was great - and it was my 100th game for Lawrence."
He said he was looking forward to today's final, playing against familiar faces.
"Maniototo is a good team to play against. They have a good pack of forwards and some of my mates play for their team."
Ankers has worked at Tuapeka Gold Print in Lawrence since 2006 - "I'm not sure what's next. There's a lot of opportunities here, so who knows?"
