Maudie Wilson has been to many a wedding in her 106 years, but said the nuptials yesterday of her great-granddaughter were "the icing on the cake".

Laura Thompson married Chris Irwin at Northburn Station, near Cromwell.

Mrs Wilson, Otago's oldest woman, said the wedding was "very nicely done".

She travelled from Clyde to mingle with the 85 guests.

Mrs Irwin, originally from Gore but now living in Perth, said it was awesome to have her great-grandmother at her wedding.

The bride was stunning and the day special, Mrs Wilson said.

"They've got good weather and this is a lovely spot to have a celebration, I think it's great."

Four generations of the bride's family were at the wedding.

The bride's mother, Robyn Thompson, of Gore, and grandmother, Fay Frazer, of Dunedin, declined to give their ages, but Laura is 26 and 80 years separate her and her great-grandmother.

"People can do rest of the maths for themselves," Mrs Thompson said.

The women are all eldest children.

Mrs Wilson has 39 descendants.

Laura is her first great-grandchild to get married.
