Contact Energy Ltd and Breen Construction are reinforcing the walls below the dam in
an earthquake resilience project, the work due to take until the end of April.
Large machinery will be on site, so public access to the dam has been temporarily closed for health and safety reasons. However, public access to the Hawea River will be possible during most of the works, except for a few days when large trucks will be entering and exiting the site.
Signs will advise changes to public access.
