The event transformed Molyneux Park into a tent city with riders and their supporters from all over New Zealand travelling to compete.
As well as the tents, grandstands and a TV screen were set up so spectators could view the action.
Alexandra BMX Club committee member and titles competitor Oliver Lines said the weekend had gone amazingly well.
Lines said he was proud of the effort volunteers put into preparing the track and holding the event.
The Alexandra BMX Club was one of the smallest in New Zealand, but despite that the club did well with multiple riders from the club making it to the finals, he said.
He described his own performance over the weekend as pretty good as he achieved the goal he had set himself, placing sixth in the 25-39-year-old male 20-inch class. The class was won by
Alexandra rider and former South Island champion Nathan Adair said in an interview during the Pre-Souths event that he hoped for a podium finish in his first titles back since injury.
He achieved just that, finishing third overall in the 25-39-year-old male 20-inch class with a best time of 32.58sec.
Another Alexandra rider who made it to the finals was Holly Oldham, who won the 17-24-year-old female 20-inch category in 32.65sec.
Lines attributed success of the club’s contingent to their home advantage. Their knowledge of the track’s tight corners had proved useful.
Riders now turn their attention to the 2025 Oceania BMX Championships, to be held in New Plymouth on February 2.
