Two rescue helicopters were sent to a crash in Central Otago this morning which left two people with serious injuries.
A police spokeswoman said a car carrying two people crashed into a bank on State Highway 87 between Kyeburn and Hyde about 9.30am.
St John spokeswoman Chrissy Hamilton said both occupants sustained serious injuries and had been transported to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift supervisor Andrew Norris said at 10.10am one person had been freed from the vehicle.
Another with serious injuries remained trapped after 10am, but had since been freed.
Firefighters took longer to free the second person while they waited for the all clear from ambulance officers.
