Community arts in Central Otago have received a major boost in funding with a $70,000 grant from the Central Lakes Trust (CLT).
Community arts councils in Alexandra, Queenstown, Cromwell, Roxburgh, Upper Clutha and Maniototo will each receive a share of the funding.
The Trust will work with each of the them to increase participation in all art forms.
The initial funding for Class (Central Lakes Arts Support Scheme) is for a period of 12 months, beginning next month, and will support language arts and literature, performing arts, visual arts and multi-disciplinary projects which cross over two or more of those categories.
Grants could be up to $2000 per project.
The six community arts councils will be responsible for promoting the scheme and co-ordinating the application process.
Alexandra Community Arts chairwoman Beth McArthur said Alexandra will receive about $15,500, Creative Queenstown just over $30,000, Cromwell about $9000, Roxburgh $3000, Upper Clutha just over $13,000 and Maniototo $197.
