Cromwell police are investigating a "crime wave" of thefts from vehicles.
Central Otago sub-area commander Senior Sergeant Jill Woods said during the past three days, goods had been stolen from 16 vehicles parked in the town - most of them unlocked.
Various small electronic goods, iPods, GPS navigation systems and CDs had been taken, she said.
"We're up to 16 vehicles now, so it's been a crime wave."
"Again, we're issuing a reminder for people not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to lock their vehicles."
Three incidents of wilful damage to vehicles, involving spray paint, were also being investigated, and she believed those were linked to the thefts.
Any information from the public would be welcome, Snr Sgt Woods said.
