Terrace School youngsters burned off some energy running four laps around the school circuit as parents and staff members coated the youngsters in non-toxic colour paint.
The event was to raise funds for Debra NZ, a group which supports families of children who have Epidermolysis bullosa, also known as "butterfly skin syndrome".
Terrace School's Tait Payne was diagnosed with the condition which causes the skin to become extremely fragile and can cause it to frequently blister.
Tait's mother Avril Robinson said the reality of her son's condition had hit home.
"He did say to me the other day he wished he didn't have butterfly skin ... which breaks your heart."
Tait was right in the thick of the action yesterday, having been part of the event planning.
Ms Robinson said it was humbling having the school community support the event.
"It's going to a good cause which is pretty close to our hearts.
"Everyone who has turned to help out has been amazing."
Deputy principal Mick Enright said 85kg of paint was splashed over the pupils during the afternoon.
