The driver of a car that crashed on State Highway 8 between Tarras and Cromwell on Sunday has been named.
He Huang (39) hit a boulder which caused the car he was driving to roll and go up in flames, Fairfax reported.
The car, a Toyota Previa, had five passengers and one person, a relative of Huang's, died at the scene.
Huang appeared in the Christchurch District Court yesterday, where he was convicted of careless driving and disqualified from driving for eight months.
A tourist, he was due to leave the country soon but lost all his travel documents in the fire so his return home could be delayed.
