Staff take redundancy after restructuring

Some staff have taken redundancy at the  Alexandra BNZ branch following a restructuring of roles and change in operating hours at the branch.

There were previously five full-time staff at the Alexandra BNZ but that would change to two full-time staff and three part-time staff, BNZ retail regional manager Robyn McKinnel said yesterday.

The Alexandra BNZ’s operating hours would also change, from 9am-5pm at present to 10am-3pm from March 27. Full banking services would still be offered during those hours.

Ms McKinnel said the changes had been made following a review of the Alexandra branch.

"BNZ constantly reviews the locations of our store network and our opening hours to make sure we are focusing investment in the areas we can best serve the changing needs of our customers.

"The banking world is changing rapidly and the reality today is that our customers are increasingly choosing BNZ’s digital banking channels to fulfil their everyday banking needs. In fact, 89% of our transactions are made using our digital channels."

Consultation was held with Alexandra staff and some staff had chosen redundancy, Ms McKinnel said.

A spokeswoman did not confirm how many people had been made redundant, saying "these personal details are private and confidential between the bank and our people".

"What I can say, is that in Cromwell and Alexandra our team were offered alternative positions to consider ... Some of the team in Alexandra opted for redundancy, so BNZ will be recruiting there."

The change follows a similar one at Cromwell BNZ last year.

The Cromwell branch used to be open from 9am-4.30pm but changed to 10am-3pm last Easter.

In Cromwell, there were previously one full-time and three part-time staff. Now, there are three part-time staff.
