A St John spokesman said three patients were being treated for moderate injuries and were taken by ambulance to Dunstan Hospital.
Police, fire crews and two ambulances and one manager were at the scene.
The accident happened close to Deadman's Point Bridge bridge ( at the intersection of State Highway 8 and 8b) near the entrance to Cromwell.
NZ Transport Agency said the crash blocked one lane immediately after the crash.
