The theft of the Cromwell Scrap Metal Recyclers' "mobile office" has dealt the business a severe blow.
A locked 4WD Toyota Hilux Surf - signwritten with the business name on its doors - was stolen from outside business owners Justin and Anne Smythe's home between 11pm on Tuesday and 8am yesterday "I'm devastated," Mr Smythe said.
"Because the yard was a target of thieves, everything was kept in that vehicle as a mobile office - keys, the bookwork, business cellphone, even the tools I've bought over 20 years, and a new GPS system.
"And it had $1000 worth of new tyres on it," Mr Smythe said.
Senior Constable John Chambers, of Cromwell, said it was a distinctive vehicle and he suspected it had been ditched or stripped.
Mr Smythe spent yesterday searching "far and wide" for the vehicle and contacted service stations and truck firms about the theft.
Anyone who has seen the vehicle in recent days is asked to contact the Cromwell police.
