Alexandra BMX Club members Holly Oldham and Charlie Leyser won national titles at this year's BMX New Zealand Championships and said the success had buoyed them to aim internationally.
Holly won the NZ1 title in the U14 girls' division and Charlie won the NZ1 title in the U7 boys' division in the Easter championships in Te Awamutu.
Five other Alexandra BMX Club members also won top-10 rankings at the national championships. Tamai Riwhi (7) won NZ2 in the U8 girls (she won NZ1 in her division last year); Lachie James (13) won NZ3 in 13-14 years Cruiser Male; Nathan Adair (26) won NZ3 in 25-29 years male; Tahlia Nelson won NZ5 in U10 girls and NZ8 in 8-10 years Mixed Cruiser; and Duncan Sutherland (15) won NZ7 in U16 boys.
Two club members also won National Series plates for their results in the full year of the BMX series: Tahlia was ranked fifth in the series, and Trey Nelson (12) was fourth.
Club spokeswoman Carole Gillions said it was a ``fantastic'' result for such a small club. The Alexandra club had also won the Mainland South Interclub title this year.
Holly and Charlie were now fundraising to attend the BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in July.
They were both grateful for community support they had received so far, and said their goal was to do their ``best'' at the world event.
