An injured person, believed to have received serious leg injuries in a chainsaw accident, has been flown from Ettrick, in Central Otago, to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter.
At St John Ambulance spokeswoman said St John was alerted at 4.50pm, and a patient with serious injuries was later flown to hospital.
The spokeswoman was unable to clarify the cause and nature of the injuries, whether a chainsaw had been involved, or whether the injuries were considered life-threatening.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said he had no details of the injuries or the nature of the accident, but volunteer firefighters from Millers Flat had helped with the rescue.
Firefighters in a fire appliance and a utility vehicle had been alerted shortly after 5pm and had gone to the Ettrick Hall grounds and prepared a landing zone for the helicopter.
The helicopter had later landed, and the patient was apparently treated before being flown to hospital.
