The annual competition was organised by St John and the United Fire Brigades Association of New Zealand, and comprised eight teams from the South Island.
In the Otago section, Balclutha's team was second, while Cromwell took third place and Ranfurly and Alexandra were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Each team was made up of five fire brigade members and a St John medic.
Other teams came from Blenheim, Kirwee and Rolleston.
Teams had to practise their skills in three different simulated crashes, which focused on cutting vehicles and removing injured passengers.
They were assessed along the way by Australian Road Rescue Organisation representatives and local St John volunteers.
The event served as a training exercise, as well as a competition and get-together for fellow firefighters and St John staff.
From 7am to about 5pm, spectators could watch teams as they worked.
The event was hosted by the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade and Otago Southland Provincial Fire Brigades Association.
