Her win meant more than $10,000 was donated to her chosen charity, CanLive.

"I'm just really happy to win an event that goes to such a great cause.

"I lost my partner to cancer at age 25, so I'm all for support towards cancer research."

This year's contestants were forced to battle challenging conditions over the two-day event.

But the near incessant rain did not dampen a riotous atmosphere during the first day of the Perfect Woman event near Wanaka on Saturday.

A total of 14 entrants gunning for the crown had the opportunity to showcase their skills among a variety of events held in Luggate.

The line-up had been whittled down to a final 10 by yesterday.

Organisers had their hands full as as volatile conditions meant a reshuffle of proceedings.

Following Saturday's activities which included mini golf, blind tasting, gumboot throwing and a DIY "hammer in a nail" competition, claybird shooting, jet-boat driving and haircutting were highlights of yesterday alongside enthusiastic support crews, some of whom dressed up for the afternoon.

Wanaka mother-of-three Lucy "Shorty" Jaine found herself on top following Saturday's events.

"Lucky to be in the top 10, it's pretty cool.

"The weather's been pretty bad but that hasn't dampened anyone's spirits. They're a lovely bunch of girls."

She said the perfect woman was best represented by someone who put their family first.

Basking in her "maturity" was Rosemary Halse (67) who was the oldest of the competitors in her third event.

The Whangarei retiree said the challenge of the event was a big drawcard for her making the trip down.

"I've made some good friends the first two years.

"It's nice to return and do it all over again."

She said it was fun to see the women try their hand at things they would not normally do.

Organiser Stew Burt said despite the weather, the women had been amazing.
