She wore a floral-print Helen Cherry dress, bought in Wanaka, teamed with a pink hat and lilac shoes, bought in Dunedin. Brad Dowman, of Queenstown, sporting a grey suit, light grey shirt, white tie, belt and shoes, won the best-dressed male section.
He said he was ''dressed by Hallensteins - except for my shoes, which are from Number One Shoes''.
There were 32 entrants in the contest and children made up about a third of them. Otago Racing Club chief executive Andre Klein said, judging by the enthusiasm shown by the younger competitors, it might be time for a ''best dressed'' contest for the young race-goers.
Attendance at the race meeting looked to be down on previous years, he said.
''However, it's still a good crowd and there's lots on this weekend. We're competing with the golf, for example, so we're happy with the crowd we've got. They've having a good time and we've got great weather, as always.
