Mt Aspiring College principal Maurie Jackways has announced his intention to retire as headmaster from the Wanaka secondary school.
Mr Jackways, in his mid-fifties, announced he had tendered his resignation as principal to school pupils and parents in yesterday's edition of Panui, the Mt Aspiring College newsletter.
He said the most outstanding feature of his time as principal of the college was the support he had received from the school community.
Mr Jackways has spent the past year working in an advisory role with the University of Otago's College of Education support services, providing leadership and management to first-time principals
around Otago and Southland.
The married father of three could not be contacted by the
Otago Daily Times yesterday, to confirm whether he would continue with a full-time position with the university mentoring the region's rookie secondary school principals.
His resignation takes effect from July 18, at the beginning of the third term for 2008.
