Prices sought on bridges, signs

Bridges and signs are being sought for the Gabriels Gully walking track.

The 4km walk was opened in March and follows the east side of the gully from the car park, past the point where Gabriel Read first discovered gold, and then on to the Goldfields Park.

Two footbridges are required to complete the route, one at a mid-point leading to the Pick and Shovel Monument in Gabriels Gully Rd and the second crossing a stream feeding into the gully close to the area known locally as "Stevie's Garden".

The two bridges are estimated to cost about $14,500 excluding building and resource consent fees.

At its meeting on Wednesday, the Lawrence/Tuapeka Community Board asked the Clutha District Council to look at more pricing options for the bridges.

The board also received a report on signage for the track, which proposed one main sign at the beginning of the walk, another at the "turnaround" point, four track markers, and one sign pointing to the Pick and Shovel Monument. The signs were estimated to cost $2000.

The board requested more reference points on the main signs.
