Power outage affects Central Otago towns

Power was out to Wanaka, Cromwell and the surrounding areas this morning due to a fault at a substation.

An Otago Daily Times reporter in Wanaka said the power was out about 8am this morning in the town.

There were also reports of outages in Hawea, Bannockburn and Cromwell.

Transpower posted to its Facebook page saying power was out in several towns and had it sent a crew to fix the issue.

" Our crews. . .  have identified the issue (a broken insulator).

"Apologies for interrupting your holiday and hopefully we’ll have you back connected soon."

About 9am Transpower said the fault had been fixed.

"It will take your lines company a little longer to reconnect all their supplying feeders, but you should all be getting power back on over the next hour or so," it said.
