Police refer four youths after vandalism, theft

Four Cromwell youths, aged 14 to 16, have been referred to police youth aid after property was damaged in the town late on Friday night.

Sergeant Mike Williams, of Cromwell, said the teenagers were intoxicated and damaged three fences and three letterboxes.

They also took a small amount of alcohol and some eggs from a Cromwell house, he said.

"With the fantastic assistance of the public, we were able to identify all these young men."

He was concerned at their level of intoxication and planned to investigate who had given them the drink, as it was an offence to buy alcohol for people under 18.

A 46-year-old Cromwell man will appear in the Alexandra District Court on October 21 charged with misusing a telephone.

The matter concerned text messaging.
