Alexandra police are pleased that only five drivers of more than 2000 stopped in the town during the past three weeks have tested positive for drink-driving.
During that time, about 200 infringement notices had been issued, Sergeant Ian Kerrisk said.
"One drinking driver is one too many but given that we've stopped in excess of 2000 drivers, the number of infringement notices is low and the number of drinking drivers is low, so we're very pleased with that," he said.
The latest person arrested for drink-driving is a Clyde man (53), who will appear in court this month.
"Traffic flows have been extremely heavy, especially today [Sunday], but the traffic has been very well-behaved."
A big crowd at Molyneux Park watched the Otago Volts play the Wellington Firebirds and Sgt Kerrisk praised the crowd's behaviour.
