The sound of music is livening up Alexandra's shopping centre and anyone is welcome to tinkle the ivories.
Michael Burdon, of Galloway, has donated one of his spare pianos, and it is now based on the footpath next to Centrepoint Mall in Centennial Ave.
"Everywhere in the world you travel there is a piano for people to play - at the Underground in London, in Vancouver, in all sorts of places, so why not in Alexandra?'' Mr Burdon said.
"I hope people get pleasure from it, especially children.''
He discussed the idea with Alexandra, Clyde and Districts Business Group chairman Barry Hambleton and the group was keen to "host'' the gift.
This week, as part of the group's midwinter Christmas promotion, various people are rostered to play the piano at lunchtimes. The rest of the time, anyone can play it.
To prevent vandalism to the piano, it will be locked within the mall at nights.
Mr Hambleton said the "do-it-yourself'' music would be something different for Alexandra.
"I think it'll add some extra atmosphere to the business centre.''
Mr Burdon said he was happy to have one fewer musical instrument at home. Now he only has two organs, one pianola, a grand piano and five other pianos.
"I've inherited quite a few from other people.''
