A 23-year-old man was captured after driving erratically, evading police and sparking a large emergency services callout in Alexandra Tourist Park yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said police were called about a man driving erratically just after 5pm yesterday. After they tracked the car to Alexandra Tourist Park, in Ngapara St, the driver and one of three passengers escaped on foot.

Police eventually found the man when he returned to the shearers' accommodation at the park about 7pm.

Police were speaking to him last night and he would probably be charged with driving-related offences.

The passenger who evaded capture was let off with a pre-charge warning.

The manhunt had earlier resulted in the park being locked down and a large emergency services callout.

A reporter at the scene said people had not been allowed into the camping ground, but the gates were opened at 6pm.

About 10 firefighters were gathered outside the park with police officers, but they left the scene shortly after the gates were opened.
