The team may be surrounded by ferrets and stoats now, but after implementing a community backyard trapping programme in Central Otago they hope this will change.
Following a local forum in May which gauged public interest, a public meeting was held on Thursday evening to try to get the plan into action.
Ms Hawkins said she hoped one in five Alexandra households would get behind the plan, then it could be extended into the wider district and maybe further afield.
The team saw a similar programme in Wanaka, and wanted to promote it within the wider region, supporting the Department of Conservation’s plan to make New Zealand entirely predator-free by 2050.
