The second wave of cyclists competing in the Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge heads over Deadman's Point bridge at Cromwell, at the start of the 96km race.
Mosgiel cyclist Brad Evans won the event, which was held on Sunday, finishing just one second ahead of his nearest rival, Glenn Gould, of Timaru. Evans beat 160 competitors, in a time of 2hr 24min 49sec. The event is the final one in the Cromwell Summer Series and organisers said a thunderstorm earlier on Sunday morning may have deterred cyclists, causing a drop in entries compared with the previous year. The weather was sunny for the race but cyclists faced a gusty northwest wind.
