Emergency services were called to a head-on crash between a car and truck near Luggate this afternoon.
Police were notified of the crash near The Red Bridge on State Highway 8A at 4pm.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said one person was trapped immediately after the crash and multiple crews worked to free them.
A reporter at the scene said the person was freed and taken away by ambulance about 4.45pm.
St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said the person had moderate injuries.
The highway was closed near the scene of the crash.

The crash happened on a tight corner.
