Officers sole focus of police inquiry

The focus of the internal police investigation being held as a result of two Alexandra officers being convicted on perjury-related charges will centre on the two staff only.

Southern District commander Superintendent Bob Burns said yesterday the code-of-conduct investigation concerned only the two officers - Neil Robert Ford (56) and Dairne Olwen Cassidy (39).

Ford was found guilty last Friday of committing perjury by giving false evidence about a car crash in which he was involved in 2005.

The constable who investigated the crash, Cassidy, had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of wilfully attempting to pervert the course of justice.

She will be sentenced on November 17 and Ford on September 28.

The code of conduct investigation was "a matter between the employer and employee and relates to an employee's conduct in the workplace", Supt Burns said.

No further comment would be made until after the sentencing of the two officers involved, he said.
