Past and present Central Otago police officers were recognised for their efforts by Police Commissioner Peter Marshall (second from left) and police staff yesterday in Alexandra.

Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw (left), of Alexandra, received a commendation from district commander Superintendent Robert Burns for his work on two particular cases - a 2011 Roxburgh homicide and the drowning of Paul Wilson at Talla Burn in the same year.

He also received formal recognition, in the form of a certificate, of his 1998 promotion to sergeant.

Former constable Lesley Love served in the police force in Central Otago in 2010 and 2011 and was also recognised with a District Commander's Commendation for her extensive research work in a case which had set a benchmark in the police force and was cited at the police college, Central Otago sub area commander Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie received a long-service medal for his 35 years in the force.
