A new doctor has been appointed for the Roxburgh Medical Centre, alleviating concerns about the retention of doctors in the Teviot Valley.
Roxburgh Medical Services Trust chairman John Pritchard announced last week Dr Vivienne Tate had been hired to work at the Roxburgh centre.
She will replace a husband and wife team who have shared the full-time sole-GP role for 12 months, but are about to leave.
Another GP, Dr Kath Wilson, had also been employed to practise on Thursdays each week, and Dr Chris Mulholland, who had been working every Friday at the centre, would continue to work on Fridays, Mr Pritchard said.
Mr Pritchard said the appointments were "excellent news".
He had said earlier this month staffing at the Roxburgh centre was an ongoing concern.
The Roxburgh centre has had a high turnover of doctors in recent years, relying on locum cover for some periods.
"It has always been a challenge to find doctors to practise in smaller communities and this community is not exempt," Mr Pritchard said.
Mr Pritchard said again this week the issues facing the Teviot Valley were no different from those in other rural areas.
"Prime" nurses (Primary Response in Medical Emergencies) also operate in the Teviot Valley, contributing after-hours cover.
