Alexandra's Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery has appealed to the Vincent Community Board for an extra $16,000 a year so it can maintain the services it offers.
Central Stories manager Rachael Welfare told the board this week rates, insurance, repair and maintenance costs were adding up and eating into operating funds.
The grant would be in addition to the museum's annual grant from the board of $77,180, which is provided for in the Central Otago District Council's draft long-term plan.
As well as the museum and art gallery, the 10-year-old building houses the town's information centre, cinema and a function room.
Council corporate services manager Susan Finlay warned the board to think carefully as there was not much ''wiggle room'' in the long-term plan to accommodate all submissions.
The board resolved to offer 60% of the requested funds ($9500), subject to council approval.
