The Alexandra Service Centre on Tarbert St is the last in the southern region to be upgraded, and will undergo alterations in line with those made at other service centres.
MSD service centres throughout the country have been receiving the new security layout in response to the Ashburton shooting in 2014.
MSD regional commissioner Steph Voight said the improvements would offer more privacy and included added security features in the layout.
"We’re doing some work to improve our Alexandra Service Centre, to help make it work better for our kaimahi [staff] and anyone accessing our services," Ms Voight said.
"These changes are already in place in other service centres within our Southern region.
"They look and feel more welcoming, and we continue to receive positive feedback about the improvements from those communities."
The office will close at noon next Friday and is scheduled to reopen on November 9 at 9.30am.
Staff will be working from other locations and assistance will be available online or over the phone.
