Midwinter market proves popular

The annual midwinter market at Clyde, held at the Clyde Town Hall yesterday, attracted more than double the crowd it did last year.

An estimated 600 people made the most of about 20 art and craft stalls, as well as barbecued food and cake stalls, from 11am.

Make-up, photography, hand-made candles, face painting, and baby clothes also proved popular, with many stallholders running out of stock by 1pm.

Organiser Naomi Keenan said she was "over the moon" with the popularity of the event, and said stallholders would likely be happy to continue participating in the annual market.

"At about 11.30am, people couldn't even get in the front door, it was that busy. It's been a record number for us, which is terrific.

"I think we are going to be very happy with the outcome," she said.

Proceeds from the market, which is in its third year, will go towards sandpit and science technology at the Clyde Playcentre.

Mrs Keenan said there was also a Clyde school stall at the market to raise funds for school equipment.

"It's all for good things as well, so people are happy to contribute their bit to help school fund-raising," she said.
