Police want to talk to two young men in connection with a recent burglary at a Cromwell rest-home and believe the men could be ''targeting'' rest-homes and hospitals.
Sergeant Simon Paget said the two men, both described as being Maori aged in their 20s, were seen ''loitering'' at the Ripponburn Hospital and Home when the burglary took place, on May 15.
One of the men was on crutches and was wearing a ''moon boot'', Sgt Paget said.
The men were travelling in a grey or silver-coloured sedan.
''The crutches and moon boot could all be part of the ruse, a prop used to get them into a building.''
The burglary happened between 3pm and 5pm and $823 in cash, two iPads and a laptop computer were taken from the rest-home.
Sgt Paget said the men had been loitering around the rest-home and, when confronted, told staff they were ''waiting for a friend''.
They were ''well-spoken and quite pleasant''.
The same day, the same two men had entered Dunstan Hospital at Clyde, offered some reason about why they were there but were ''sent on their way'', Sgt Paget said.
The photograph police were circulating of one of the al-leged offenders was taken at a Cromwell hotel, after the barman thought the men's behaviour was ''suspicious'', Sgt Paget said.
