Mechanical workshop jobs retained

Infrastructure specialist company Delta is to shed seven staff in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes because of a downturn in construction - three fewer than proposed before staff were consulted last week.

"Following feedback from our employees, we modified the proposal and will now retain our Alexandra-based mechanical workshop. As a result, seven positions have been made redundant, rather than the 10 planned under the original proposal," Delta chief executive Grady Cameron said.

He said the seven positions made redundant were in Delta's civil construction operations in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.

Earlier this month, Mr Cameron said the company's civil construction and water team had 38 staff, with a total of 110 employees in the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes area.

Affected employees could apply for other roles within Delta.

Mr Cameron said the changes were "necessary to match our local operational capacity to market requirements in the face of a sustained downturn in property development and reduced local government infrastructure spend." He said Delta would continue to have a presence in the area and still offer civil construction services.
