Mayoralty candidate

Central Otago has had a farmer as mayor followed by an academic and now it is time for a tradesman, says mayoral hopeful, Alexandra mechanic Jeff Hill (62).

The former community board member became the third mayoral candidate yesterday joining incumbent Malcolm Macpherson and deputy mayor Tony Lepper in the race.

"I offer something different. I don't follow that council ethos of expense and I have the ability to say 'No'. I see things more from the ratepayers' point of view."
