An Alexandra man is in a critical but stable condition in Dunedin Hospital after the vehicle he was driving crashed in Letts Gully Road on Thursday night.
Daniel Patterson (23) received serious head injuries in the crash which happened about 10.30pm.
Passenger Simon Hillis (20), of Alexandra, was trapped in the vehicle and the fire service used cutting gear to extricate him.
Police say their inquiries show the car had crossed the centre line and crashed into a tree.
Inquiries are continuing.
