Mr Robb said it was only food sales and someone to fill the tank that would be missing.
Card-operated pumps would deliver fuel 24 hours a day and the workshop and parts department would continue as they had for more than 100 years.
Lpg, ice, oil and phone top-ups would be available from the office. he said.
While Mr Robb had worked at the family-owned business since 1961, the shop on the corner was a newer addition.
It was originally part of the then Ford franchise’s showroom. As car sales changed they halved the showroom and expanded the shop.
Various goods had been offered at the store including coffee, which was superceeded as more cafes opened in Roxburgh and cigarettes, which faced a drop off in sales over the years, Mr Robb said.
He would still be at work during the week and be around the workshop and office.
While closing the shop and the new automated pumps meant he would not have the same contact with customers, he was looking forward to not working Saturdays and Sundays.
Visiting car shows and enjoying his own classic cars were high on his list of things he planned to enjoy at weekends, he said.
