Brigade spokesman Mark Hutton said the first open day at the station for many years drew a steady stream of visitors all afternoon.
He estimated about 700 people had visited the station.
The aim of the day was to promote fire safety in the community.
"There are three things we are focusing on - the safe disposal of hot ashes, keep looking while you are cooking, and show children how to escape from fires," Mr Hutton said.
Demonstrations of fire equipment were held throughout the afternoon and children had a chance to practise escape drills.
A junior fire station building, complete with ride-on fire engines and child-sized replicas of firefighters' suits, was also popular.
Displays by the police and St John formed part of the event and Sergeant Ian Kerrisk said it was a worthwhile exercise.
Mr Hutton said the day was a mix of entertainment and education and he was pleased with its success.
