Having to return to a fire yesterday at the same location as one the day before reinforced the severity of the fire risk, the Clyde fire chief says.
The Clyde Volunteer Fire Brigade attended a fire at the Fraser Domain yesterday afternoon that had reignited after firefighters hosed it down on Monday.
They were alerted yesterday by Asplundh staff mowing grass at the domain.
Chief Fire Officer Richard Davidson said despite putting ''a few thousand litres'' of water on the fire, it must have smouldered in organic matter beneath pine trees and had later flared up.
People needed to realise how dry conditions in Central Otago were, he said.
There is a restricted fire season in the region at present.
