A person has died at the scene of controlled burn-off at Northburn, near Cromwell.
Paramedics arrived at Northburn by helicopter at 6.30pm and police said a person was subsequently found dead.
Acting Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said police were at the scene trying to establish the circumstances of the death, but it was not thought to be suspicious.
Details of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been advised.
No further comment or details will be available this evening.
