Seasonal Solutions was not exploiting Vanuatuan workers, director Basil Goodman said yesterday.
He was responding to an article in yesterday's Otago Daily Times that said the Presbyterian Church was worried workers were not receiving their due when they came to work in Central Otago and other parts of New Zealand.
Mr Goodman said some workers earned more than $20,000 in the seven months they were in Central Otago, with an average gross wage of $17,000.
Workers were transported to and from their workplace and were guaranteed a minimum of 35 hours' work a week.
The management of the Vanuatuan workers under the direction of the village chiefs in Vanuatu ensured they received full-time pastoral care, help using banking, health care and budgeting, Mr Goodman said.
Much of the money they earned was managed to maximise the "take home" earnings for the workers' families and villages in Vanuatu, he said.
