Economic stability is the vision

A Naseby  group hopes a community plan will boost the "economic stability'' of the town.

The Central Otago District Council is seeking feedback on the 2016 Naseby Community Plan, which is steered by Naseby Vision and sets goals for the town for the next five years.

Naseby Vision chairman John Crawford, who lives in Dunedin but owns a crib in Naseby, said boosting the economic stability of the town was a major goal, and increasing its permanent population was part of that.

Naseby has about 120 permanent residents.

"We're not talking a lot but just 10 would be great.''

Many recommendations seek to increase tourism.

One recommendation is to better advertise recent improvements to its mobile reception.

"Six months ago we didn't have any coverage; now it's great.''

Another goal was to bring the Eden Hore fashion garment collection, which is owned by the council, back to the town, he said.

A low-priority recommendation was to build a hot pools centre.

"We're finding ways to get people to stay an extra night.''

The past two Naseby Community Plans were "very successful'', he said.

"We achieved 90% of what we set out to do and more.''

A medium-priority recommendation was to discuss with all landowners removing scrub from around the town to reduce fire risk.

Copies of the plan are available on the council's website.

It will accept feedback until May 16.
