The Central Otago District Council wants some feedback before the matter is discussed at a council meeting later this month. It has launched an online survey, to test opinions.
A change in legislation has given local authorities the chance to decide whether Easter Sunday trading should be allowed in all or part of their district.
Council planning and environment manager Louise van der Voort said the public would get a further chance to air their views when a draft policy on the matter was open for consultation.
''We'd like to get the community feedback first though, to get a feel for what people want, before drawing up that policy.''
The survey closes on November 13.
