The line of "Dolly Partons" were so in character at the Omakau Stars in Your Eyes showcase this weekend,  calls of "Please don’t take my man" may have been heard from the crowd.

About 180 folk watched nine performers become alter egos on Saturday for the fundraiser.

Harriet Cameron, who was one of five "Dolly Partons", said to get into the Southern diva’s mind-set you needed to "listen to a lot of country".

"We usually work 24 hours a day, but we’ve cut it back to nine to five for today".

It was the seventh version of the show, which is run every second year by the town’s home and school committee.

A Speedo-wearing Matakanui Rugby club got the crowd roaring with a tarpaulin synchronised swimming routine.

Crowd votes revealed the favourite to be local Dazz Dilly with her James Morrison impersonation.

Co-organiser Renee Harrex,  of St Bathans, said the night had a "great community atmosphere".

Between $7000 and $10,000 was raised through ticket sales and an auction of donated items, she said.

The money will help with the upkeep of the school’s swimming pool.

"We’re so fortunate to have a pool out here, so we thought we should put all the money towards it this year."
